New Year: New Changes. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) welcomes a new Lingkod NCCA, our newly appointed executive director, Mr. Oscar Getuya Casaysay. Bringing communities together to celebrate culture and arts is at the heart of Mr. Casaysay’s life work. He started as a young theatre artist, participating in school theatre plays in his elementary and high school. In college, his love for the arts only deepened as he led the University of Mindanao’s (UM) theatre group. During his stay at UM he was initiated into the broader national democratic movement where at the heart of his work was community organization particularly in the arts sector. Seeing that art—particularly the performing arts— can be a powerful tool in spreading social awareness, he became a key student leader, organizing youth performing groups in his community. This community approach to art continued even as he entered public service. During his work in Davao, he served as a consultant to the Davao City Culture and Arts Council and a trustee of the Davao Historical Society. Prior to holding this post for the NCCA, Executive Director Casaysay was a provincial information officer for Davao Occidental, and executive director to Kaliwat Performing Artists Collective. Executive Director Casaysay took his oath of office before Judge January Faye Risonar-Bello in Davao City on Tuesday, 18 January 2022. Under the leadership of executive director Casaysay – with his enduring and firm belief in the power of culture and the arts in transforming people and societies, the NCCA shall continue to serve the sector as we banner “Lingkod NCCA: Marangal, Malikhain, Mapagbago”
